Joan MacDonald

My tips to help you get started: 1. Really take stock of the things you want to change . Be clear in your mind what habits you want to change. Write those things down. Make a clear list! 2. Write out another list of the new habits you want to master to create a new you. Be clear. Be simple. Changing your life isn’t as complicated as we make it out to be. To make big changes we need to create new daily habits. That’s it. End of story. Focus on the habits. 🥰🥰 3. Get a nutrition plan and an exercise plan that you can follow for the long term. Be careful of fad diets that eliminate major food groups. You want this to be sustainable. Anyone can lose 10 lbs for a couple of months. You will want to be one of the few that transform for the long haul. That’s where the real benefits start racking up! 🔝🔝 4. Have an attitude of gratitude for the small successes. The more you can focus on what you’re doing right, the more confident and energized you’ll be to keep on going. You can’t beat yourself over the finish line folks. You’ve got to learn to truly love yourself unconditionally and keep on encouraging ourselves to grow in the right direction. ❤️ . Happy Friday! Sounds out, I got my guns out!

3 years ago I began this long, slow journey and now I realize that there really isn’t any end to it. Each day I move in a direction based on my choices. Each month is a new milestone. Each year I seem to have changed so completely I think I can’t change any more and yet I do.💕💕 At this point, I truly realize that we are limitless. At any moment we can make a decision to change. No matter how difficult or challenging life is, we must remain steadfast in our aim and keep inching forward. When I got started I never imagined I’d be where I am today. I just wanted to get my health back and get off my medication. Each door we step through leads to another door and then another. I hope you all keep choosing to grow! To learn to love yourself, take the best care of yourself, and dare to dream and love with your whole heart again.🙏🙏 . Pink outfit by @womensbest . . #transformation #hope #justdoit.

The world needs more love, less hate! If you haven’t called your mother or sister or best friend to tell them how much you love them, do it today! Don’t live with regrets. My mom and I have always been close, but fitness has brought us even closer. Now that she’s healthy she can come bike with us, train with us, she has energy and verve again. She’s become u stoppable at 74, and is able to have the retirement she had always wanted for herself! If I hadn’t fought for her and spent the time with her that I did at that crucial moment when she was on the brink of change, she might never had made it. That investment in her was with it to see her health and laughter now! The more you give, the more you get. Give, and you shall receive 🙏🙏 .. @trainwithjoan

Stay strong!!! 🏋🏻‍♀️🏋🏻‍♀️🏋🏻‍♀️ As a big “thank you” to all of you for the love and support you’ve given me, I am going to be leading a live video this Saturday right here. For this upcoming at home workout session you will need just a pair of circular bands (the small ones) and your warm body. My bands are by @hopefitnessgear and part of their proceeds go towards helping our youth fight back against illness.. It’s a great cause! Please tag someone who needs this motivation 💕💕 It’ll be about half an hour, and a sweaty one. 💦💦 I’ll be doing all the exercises with you, huffing and puffing away. Don’t be afraid to join me. Make it a family affair. Remember I have a bad knee, a bad shoulder, and lately even my left butt cheek has been acting up. 🤪 that’s the joys of getting a wee bit older. Anyways, if I can do it, YOU can do it! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 See you at 8 am EDT (TORONTO/NYC time), this April 18th. . Outfit: @womensbest pink seamless 💕💕 #fitover70 #homeworkout #womensbestwear

Let’s talk about gym style, something I never would have considered to be important even just two years ago… When I first started out on my transformation journey, I hated trying on clothes, and in fact most of my clothes barely fit me any more so I had just a few bottoms and tops to choose from. Baggy shorts and over-sized t-shirts in boring colors were my go-to. I didn’t love myself back then and that’s how I dressed myself. I used to think 1) I didn’t deserve beautiful clothes and 2) nothing nice would fit me anyway, especially at my age. It wasn’t until my daughter insisted that I buy some new workout clothes and took me shopping at @forever21 that I understood that that mindset wasn’t working for me. When I saw myself in flattering clothes in cute colors, I could see that my inner dialogue had to go. I actually had muscles! I actually had a good shape taking form! I felt so good inside to see that in those new clothes. 💛Even though it might seem like something superficial like clothing can’t have a big impact on how we see ourselves it absolutely can my dears! If I can learn that lesson in my seventies you can too. Now you won’t catch me heading to the gym (or my living room as the case may be 😅) without taking the time to chose a favorite outfit. My daughter tells her clients, “you have to invest the same love and compassion for yourself at the START of your transformation that would to your own daughter if she was in your shoes. You would encourage her, compliment her on her successes no matter how small, and you would treat her to some workout clothes that were flattering, wouldn’t you? So learn to do that for yourself, and replace that negative inner dialogue with a positive one”. Now I’m sharing this with you. 💕 Please don’t wait til you’re “perfect” to take pride in yourself. You have to already see your perfection, your effort and your courage today. Love yourself enough to change, and show yourself that love daily. On the right I’m wearing one of my favorite outfits by @womensbest . If you have any questions please ask below, and share your favorite gym-wear brands with each other! With Love Joan 💗 . #womenbest #womensbestwear

It’s been a little over two months that I’ve been down here in Tulum and I swear this place is like the fountain of youth. 🥰 Nature, the jungle, the birds, the ocean, the company, the food, the exercise…it’s all so invigorating. A lot of you keep asking me of I’ll move down here. Well, I am now convinced that spending the winter down here is a good idea and better for my health. I think as we get older it’s so important to spend time with people who really love us, and who also push us to be our very best. I have that down here with Michelle and JJ, and I count my blessings. This truly feels like home to me, and I have to trust my heart. I love how the local people say hi to me, make me feel welcomed, and seem to really love older people. I love learning the language, even if I keep stumbling over the words! 😅 I love getting on my bicycle and picking up odds and ends at the grocery store feeling like a kid again. The restaurants and shops are all so unique. Even going out for a coffee is a mini adventure. I just love the freshness and energy I feel when I’m down here. 🙏 . I hope you all have a wonderful day today, and are in a place where you too are able to feel loved, at peace and joyful. Life is so short. Make sure you are building something beautiful for yourself and always tell the people you love, how much you love them. Do it now, don’t wait. 💕 Love Joan ❤️

My oh my what a difference 3 years and 65 lbs can make! 😅 . I can vividly remember those bicep curls in the first video taken in the first week of my transformation journey with @yourhealthyhedonista . Michelle kept barking at me to pull my stomach in and keep my eyes open. I was beginning to think she was trying to kill me 😛 I was in Mexico, it was hot and humid, and I was suffering from hypertension and acid reflux. I also had vertigo which has also gone away along with the other issues since getting back in shape. 🎉 I have so much gratitude to that gal on the left who slugged it through all of those issues plus low self-esteem but who stayed the course, allowing me to be where I am today. 🥳 I look back to those years with the utmost gratitude and awe, and I promise to her that all my actions and attitudes today will pay respect to her hard work and her big dreams. I will never take my health or my habits for granted again! Let’s all fall in love with the work that has to be done to bring us the freedom and the joy and the energy that we want to experience every day 💕💪 #olderandwiser . @womensbestwear True Top in Red 💕💕
